Salak played some incredible hockey between the pipings for Dinamo Riga last week, Kunlun climbs up, Jaskin delivers, and Peltola shines for Novosibirsk. presents the top international players of the regular season’s eighth week.

Alexander Salak

Dinamo Riga, 2 G, 98.59 saves percentage, 0.50 goals-against average

After a nightmare debut in Riga with a stunning 0-7 defeat to Avangard, the Czech goalie last week started finding his groove and won both his games. After watching from the bench Neftekhimik winning in Riga with a mere 2-1 score, Alexander Salak turned in an outstanding performance in the home clash against Traktor, when he stopped 34 shots in a shutout 2-0 win. Two days later, Salak played lights out again, stopping 36 shots from 37 in a critic road win over Dinamo Minsk. Riga is gaining ground again, and even if the team sits in the last spot of the Western Conference standings, the season is not over yet.

Trevor Murphy

Kunlun Red Star, 3 G, 3 (2+1) points, +2

The Chinese franchise is one of the hottest teams in the league lately, and they are just one point off the playoffs mark in the Eastern Conference. Kunlun Red Star is now in a three-game winning streak, and one of the best players was Trevor Murphy. The blueliner – at his first experience overseas – not only he scored points in all games, but he also never played less than twenty minutes a night, with a peak of more than 25 in the 3-2 home win over Sochi on Monday. On Friday, Murphy scored again when the Chinese team had a jaw-dropping 3-0 win in Balashikha. Finally, the blueliner posted a helper as Kunlun got two points in a road game against Vityaz. In the Eastern Conference, the competition for a playoff spot is incredibly fierce, and Kunlun will undoubtedly try and get to the postseason after missing it last season.

Andrew Miller

Kunlun Red Star, 3 G, 5 (3+2) points, +3

As said when talking about Murphy, Kunlun Red Star is on the rise, and most of its players posted impressive performance last week. Other than the defenseman, Andrew Miller was instrumental for the Chinese franchise. In particular, on Sunday, the right-handed forward posted a hat-trick against Vityaz, ending a goal drought that lasted for six games. However, even without scoring, Miller was dangerous for Kunlun in different ways, like posting a pair of helpers in the Monday win over HC Sochi, a game that ended with a 3-2 home win for the Chinese franchise. Curt Fraser's work has now started paying off.

Dmitrij Jaskin

Dynamo Moscow, 2 G 6 (2+4) points, +4

After a somewhat slow start – with only one assist in his first five KHL games – Dmitrij Jaskin’s game has finally reached the level Dynamo Moscow was awaiting from him. Dynamo easily won both its games last week in the Far East, starting with a 5-1 victory over Amur, and then defeating Admiral with a 4-1 score. The #23 was nothing short than amazing on both occasions. On Monday, in Khabarovsk, Daniil Tarasov stole the show with an unforgettable 4-goal performance, but his linemates Jaskin and Shipachyov contributed with four helpers each. Two days later, the White-and-Blues moved to Vladivostok, and Jaskin was fantastic once again as he netted a pair to help Dynamo as the team is getting closer and closer to the Western Conference’s leaders.

Jukka Peltola

Sibir, 2 G, 3 (3+0) points, +3

After struggling to find the net at the start of the season, Peltola is now finally delivering, and Sibir started winning games again. The Finnish forward netted twice as Sibir defeated Metallurg on Sunday – including the OT game-winner only 48 seconds into extra-time. On Tuesday, Jukka Peltola netted another game-winning goal when he scored his second of the season in the 4-1 victory over Vityaz. Sibir is now climbing the standings and is currently the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. Peltola has scored only four goals this year so far, but all his goals were of utmost importance. He needs to go on this way to help Novosibirsk reaching the playoffs.
