The Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) play-offs will be shown on free-to-air television live on FreeSports throughout March & April.
The KHL is an international league created to aid the development of hockey in nations throughout Eurasia. The 2017-18 season, the 10th KHL Championship, began with 27 competing clubs from 7 nations: Russia (21 teams), Belarus (1), Kazakhstan (1), China (1), Latvia (1), Slovakia (1) and Finland (1).
After the success of winning the gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics, fifteen Russian ice hockey teams, including last year’s Gagarin Cup winners SKA Saint Petersburg, will contest the Conference play-offs along with Finnish side Jokerit.
FreeSports will be showing live coverage of the most crucial games during the play-offs, including the Gagarin Cup final series towards the end of April.
FreeSports have acquired the broadcast rights to the KHL playoffs through LAGARDÈRE SPORTS.
Richard Webb, Director of Operations at FreeSports said: “We are delighted to be showcasing the best talent from the KHL Play-offs on television and thrilled that we can bring live access to ice hockey fans in the UK.”
“This coverage adds to our free live ice hockey portfolio which includes the NHL, CHL, SHL and the IIHF World Championships.
Sergey Dobrokhvalov, KHL Marketing and Communications Vice-President, said: “We are delighted that ice hockey fans in Great Britain will have this opportunity to watch the KHL play-offs live. With only one match-day remaining in the regular season, we still do not know the identity of all the teams that will compete in the KHL playoffs, so one can imagine how fierce the rivalry will be during the final knockout stage. I am convinced that our cooperation with FreeSports will present a great opportunity to foster the League’s promotion on the UK market.”
