The KHL Disciplinary Committee has investigated two episodes from Sunday's regular season match in Podolsk, Moscow Region, between Vityaz and Barys Astana.
Game time – 22.55
The first episode under scrutiny was the challenge by Barys defenseman Alexander Lipin, which incurred a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes) for kneeing and injuring an opponent. After studying the evidence, the Committee supported the referee's decision. Under the KHL Disciplinary Regulations, violations which might injure or endanger an opponent are liable to incur further disciplinary measures. As a result, Lipin has been fined and disqualified for one game.
Game time – 57.23
Vityaz forward Artyom Voroshilo was called for the same offense, that of causing injury to an opponent by illegal use of the knee, and he, too, was sent to the locker room. As with Lipin, the Committee upheld the match officials' decision. Consequently, the major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes) remains in force, and Voroshilo receives a fine and a one-game suspension.
