International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) presented a list of 32 referees who will officiate the 2017 IIHF World Championship games in Cologne, Germany and Paris, France from May 5th to May 21st. Six Kontinental Hockey League referees made the list.
At the World Chamiponship KHL will be represented by officials Roman Gofman, Antonin Jerabek and Eduard Odins, along with linesmen Ivan Dedyulya, Gleb Lazarev and Alexander Otmakhov. There will also be three referees, who officiated KHL games this season as part of KHL-IIHF referee exchange program – Tobias Wehrli, Josef Kubus and Anssi Salonen.
Roman Gofman, Gleb Lazarev and Alexander Otmakhov worked at the 2016 IIHF World Championship. Notably, Gofman and Lazarev officiated the final game of the tournament. Anton Jerabek officiated the final games of 2012 and 2013 IIHF World Championships, while Ivan Dedyulya was the official at the final games of 2007 and 2013 IIHF World Championships. Eduard Odins is a 4-time winner of Golden Whistle Award, which is presented to the best KHL referee according to KHL head-coaches survey.
The choice of the International Hockey Federation is a sign of recognition of the level of refereeing of the KHL in the international arena. The fact that no other league will have such a wide judicial representation in the World Cup, says the progress of the development of the KHL referees. Our judges have repeatedly served the final matches of the world championships, and I want to wish each of the six chosen this time - worthy to show their high qualifications and confidently go the way to the decisive games of the main tournament of the year.
