The KHL Disciplinary Committee has investigated two incidents from Tuesday’s games in the Championship, and two players have received bans as a result.
In the 58th minute of the match in Zagreb between Medvescak and Slovan Bratislava, visiting goaltender Barry Brust (№33) managed to pick up a misconduct penalty (10 minutes) and a game misconduct penalty (20 minutes) for abusive and unsporting behavior by a player towards a match official. After studying the episode, the Committee upheld the referee’s decision and both penalties remain in force.
As this was the player’s fifth 10-minute penalty and second 20-minute penalty of the current season, he incurs a fine and an automatic one-game ban for each instance of repeat offending.
Barry Brust is therefore suspended for two games.
In the 25th minute of the game in Helsinki between Jokerit and Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk, visiting defenseman Ivan Lekomtsev (№56) was given a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes) for boarding and injuring an opponent. The KHL supported the match official’s decision, and Lekomtsev has been fined and suspended for one game.
