The KHL Disciplinary Committee has investigated two incidents from Friday’s games in the Championship, and a coach and two players have been handed bans ranging from one to four matches as a result.
At the end of the first period of the match in Nizhny Novgorod between Torpedo and SKA Saint Petersburg, home team head coach Peteris Skudra was given a game misconduct penalty (20 minutes) for unsporting conduct and abuse of match officials.
The committee supported the referee’s decision and ruled that the game misconduct shall remain in force, which means the Latvian specialist receives a fine and a three-match suspension. Moreover, as this was not the first time in the current campaign that the Nizhny Novgorod coach had earned a 20-minute penalty for such behavior, he incurs a separate financial penalty and an automatic one-game suspension for repeat offending.
Mr. Skudra is consequently banned for four games.
The second incident under review was the conflict which broke out in the 38th minute of the Neftekhimik versus Avangard Omsk Region match in Nizhnekamsk. Omsk forward Nikolai Lemtyugov (№13) was judged to be the instigator and given a minor plus major plus misconduct penalty (2+5+10 minutes).
The Committee upheld the referee’s decision, and ruled that the player should be fined and suspended for one game. As he had earned a 5-minute penalty for fisticuffs earlier in the season, he also incurs a separate financial penalty and anautomatic one-game suspension for repeat offending.
Nikolai Lemtyugov is therefore banned for two games.
Neftekhimik forward Nikita Kvartalnov (№37) received a major penalty (5 minutes) for his part in the disturbance, and he, too, had previously received an identical punishment this season. As a repeat offender, Kvartalnov has been fined and must serve an automatic one-game suspension.
