In response to a request from the Refereeing Department, the KHL Disciplinary Committee has reviewed two episodes from Saturday’s match in Shanghai between Kunlun Red Star and Severstal Cherepovets.
After studying the first incident, which occurred in the 12th minute and went unpunished by the referee, the Committee found Kunlun defenseman Tuukka Mantyla (№18) guilty of injuring an opponent by checking to the head and neck area. As a result, Mantyla receives a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes), a fine, and a three-game suspension.
The second episode under scrutiny was the 27th-minute major plus game misconduct penalty handed to Severstal defenseman Anton Sizov, whom the referee judged to have injured an opponent by checking to the head and neck area. In this case, the Committee supported the referee’s view and has imposed on Sizov a fine and a one-game suspension.
