To mark the end of the third month’s play of the ninth season of the Championship, The Kontinental Hockey League has named the best players of the month in four categories.
– Best goaltender was Vasily Demchenko (Traktor), who played in 6 matches and helped his team to 4 wins, including one shutout victory. The 22-year-old netminder recorded a save percentage of 96.98 and a goals against average of 1.19 - the best in the League in both categories;
– Best defenseman was Zakhar Arzamastsev (Salavat Yulaev), who celebrated 7 victories in 10 appearances, earning a +5 for the month, firing off 26 shots and scoring 4 goals – more than any other D-man in the KHL. One of Arzamastsev’s goals secured victory for the Ufa men and he won two consecutive Defender of the Week awards.
– Best forward, for the second time this season, was Sergei Mozyakin (Metallurg Magnitogorsk), with a typically mighty haul of 18 points (10+8) from a mere 10 games – the highest total in the League from the man who tops both the points and goals standings. Sergei recorded points in every game, scored goals in seven of them, rifled off 37 shots, celebrated a hat-trick against Spartak, and struck a significant double against Vityaz, which included not only the game-winner but his 450th career goal in national championships;
– Best rookie was 20-year-old Torpedo defenseman Dmitry Shulenin, who enjoyed 9 outings and merited a +5 for the month – the best efficiency rating of any rookie. Dmitry’s November figures also include 2 assists (in the victorious road games at Sibir and Avangard), 8 hits, and an average 18 minutes and 15 seconds of ice time;
