The KHL Disciplinary Committee had one of its busiest ever days and a number of players are facing an enforced absence from the ice following several serious incidents during Tuesday’s games in the Championship.
Medvescak defenseman Shaone Morrisonn was handed a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes) in the 27th minute of the Zagreb men’s game at Lokomotiv. As this was the Canadian’s second 20-minute penalty of the season, he incurs an automatic one-game ban.
Barys.defenseman Alexander Lipin was also sent for an early bath for checking to the head and area eight minutes from the end of the game against Ak Bars in Kazan. The Disciplinary Committee studied the incident and deemed the foul worthy of a one-game suspension.
Six minutes later in the same game, Barys forward Mikhail Panshin joined his teammate in the locker room after picking up a misconduct penalty for jostling the referee. As a result, he receives a two-game suspension
Vityaz defenseman Georgy Berdyukov contrived to earn a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes) for boarding and then brawling with home forward Alexander Radulov. This was Berdyukov’s second such punishment of the current campaign, and he therefore receives an automatic one-game ban.
Finally, following a request from the Refereeing Department, the Committee investigated an incident involving Sibir forward Nikolai Lemtyugov in the 42nd minute of his team’s home game against Avangard.
After studying the episode, the Committee found Lemtyugov guilty of checking to the head and area, for which he receives a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes) and a one-game suspension.
