Players of the Week 22: Svedberg, Kivisto, Ellison and Shchegolkov
To mark the end of the twenty-second week’s play of the eighth season of the Championship, the Kontinental Hockey League has named the best players of the week in four categories.
– Best goaltender
, for the second time this season, was Niklas Svedberg
(Salavat Yulaev), who helped his team to victory in all three games and kept the opposition off the scoreboard in two of them. Svedberg ended the week with a save percentage of 95.56 and a goals against average of 1.34;
– Best defenseman
was Tommi Kivisto
(Avtomobilist), who featured in three games on the road and celebrated victory in all of them, contributing 2 points (1+1) and 7 blocks. Kivisto did not receive a single minus on his way to earning a +2 for the week;
– Best forward
, also for the second time in the current campaign, was Matt Ellison
(Dinamo Minsk), whose final figures from four appearances during the week stood at 5 points (3+2), including a brace on the road at Lada, and 14 shots at goal;
– Best rookie
, and yet another two-time winner this season, was 21-year-old HC Sochi forward Vadim Shchegolkov
, who enjoyed two outings and helped his team to victory in both. Shchegolkov finished the week with 2 points (1+1), which included the game-winner against Barys, a +2 and an average ice time of 11 minutes 44 seconds.
