On Friday, the 11th of December, MasterCard and the Kontinental Hockey League announced their official partnership for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. MasterCard’s official partner status encompasses many of the League’s events and competitions, including the KHL Championship, the All-Star Game and the Youth Hockey League, and Mastercard also becomes the official card and payment system for the KHL Championship. The agreement covers all the countries in the League’s territory: Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Croatia, Slovakia and Finland.
“All around the world, MasterCard supports major sporting events and gives fans a priceless experience. Hockey is our national game and the most passionately supported sport in our country. Russia is renowned for her hockey-playing dynasties, and going to matches to cheer for one’s favorite team has long been a traditional family pastime. We hope that this cooperation with the KHL will allow us to give new opportunities and priceless moments to MasterCard holders in Russia,” - said Ilya Ryaby, head of MasterCard for Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Armenia.
As a partner of the KHL, MasterCard plans to stage a variety of events for hockey fans. The theme is Priceless Moments, and supporters will get to meet stars of the past as well as current coaches and players. There will also be promotional campaigns offering unique and exciting prizes, including tickets to games, and priceless surprises, where MasterCard holders get the chance to step inside the captivating world of hockey.
And the first promotional campaign is already underway. From the 11th to the 13th of December, MasterCard holders have the exclusive right to buy tickets for the biggest show of the hockey season - the 2016 KHL All-Star Game - with no service charge) on the official website of the event or on the ticket agency website.
