To mark the end of the twelfth week’s play of the eighth season of the Championship, the Kontinental Hockey League has named the best players of the week in four categories.
– Best goaltender was Michael Garnett (Slovan), who played in two games, both of them victories, achieving one shutout and allowing just a solitary goal all week. Garnett had a save percentage of 98.67 and kept the opposition off the scoreboard for 112 minutes 40 seconds;
– Best defenseman was Staffan Kronwall (Lokomotiv), with three wins in three appearances, 4 points (0+4), and seven blocks. Kronwall achieved a positive rating in every outing and earned a +5 for the week;
– Best forward was Anatoly Golyshev (Avtomobilist), with a haul of 5 points (4+1) from three outings, including successive doubles against Lokomotiv and HC Sochi;
– Best rookie was 18-year-old Lokomotiv forward Alexander Polunin, with 3 points (2+1) from three victorious games for the Yaroslavl men. Alexander averaged 10 minutes 10 seconds of ice time and did not receive a single minus rating, finishing the week at a +2.
