The KHL Disciplinary Committee has investigated the incident that led to Barys Astana forward Dustin Boyd’s dismissal during Saturday’s game versus Torpedo in Nizhny Novgorod. After reviewing the episode, the Committee supports the referee’s view that Boyd’s 24th-minute hit on home defenseman Alexei Pepelyayev merited a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes) for causing injury by checking to the head or neck area. As a resut of the foul, Pepelyayev required medical treatment and played no further part in the game. The League Disciplinary Regulations call for additional sanctions for offenses of this nature, and Dustin Boyd has therefore been suspended for four games.
