Nikolai Zherdev is still waiting for his first goal of the season, but the forward claimed the shoot-out winner as Severstal sank Dynamo Moscow in Saturday’s only game. He converted his team’s first attempt following a 2-2 tie, and that proved to be the only successful effort of the shoot-out.
After a scoreless opening period it was Dynamo which took the lead in the 28th minute through captain Yury Babenko. That advantage lasted just three minutes, though, before Gennady Stolyarov tied it up, and right at the end of the second period Anatoly Nikontsev put Severstal in front with his team’s second powerplay goal of the night.
That lead was also short-lived, with Konstantin Glazachev making it 2-2 in the first minute of the final period, again on the powerplay. But Dynamo could not force a victory and fell to its second defeat in a row.
