In the 25th minute of Friday’s game in Astana between Barys and Dinamo Minsk, visiting defenseman Jere Karalahti was guilty of a dangerous hit to the head of home forward Andrei Gavrilin. The KHL Disciplinary Committee upholds the referee’s decision to award a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes), for injuring an opponent by checking to the head or neck area, and has ruled that the foul by Karalahti merits the maximum additional sanction – a five-match ban.

Taking into account that this is the player’s second major plus game misconduct penalty of the season, Karalahti’s ban is extended to six games in total, one of which (Sunday’s Dinamo Minsk vs Dinamo Riga game) he has already served.
