Pavel Datsyuk scored his first goals of the season as CSKA won in overtime at Spartak. The Army Men avenged a defeat in the opening game of the season thanks to Datsyuk’s double. He opened the scoring in the 28th minute with an individual effort, and settled it in the last second of overtime. In between Stefan Ruzicka’s third-period goal earned Spartak one point from the latest Moscow derby.
Kostitsyn leads Traktor rout
Andrei Kostitsyn has been in fine form since swapping Nashville for Chelyabinsk, and he scored another two goals as Traktor thrashed Metallurg Novokuznetsk 6-0. That pair took Kostitsyn’s tally to five goals in seven games as the visitors overwhelmed Metallurg. At the other end, goalie Michael Garnett had a 39-save shut-out, including a penalty shot save from Nikita Vyglazov when his team led by a single goal.
Kulemin nets the winner
Nikolai Kulemin got the key goal as Metallurg Magnitogorsk edged out Sibir 2-1 in Novosibirsk. Kulemin struck on 45:01, while Evgeny Malkin fired in nine shots on Sergei Gaiduchenko’s goal and claimed a solitary assist. Pavel Zdunov got Magnitka’s first goal, Stepan Sannikov equalized for Sibir in the second period.
More misery for Minsk
Dinamo Minsk suffered a second successive home defeat, going down 3-0 to Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod. First period goals from Robert Nilsson and Juuso Hietanen set Torpedo on the way to its first win in four and Artyom Chernov completed the scoring. For a frustrated Dinamo side, there were big penalties for Geoff Platt (5+10) and new signing Evander Kane (2+10) as the Belarusians continue their uncertain start to the season.
