Avangard Omsk has announced the appointment of Petri Matikainen as head coach. The club has signed the specialist from Finland on a three-year contract. The new team boss flew to Omsk today to acquaint himself with his duties and join up with his players, who have already begun their first preseason training.

Petri Matikainen was born on the 7th of January 1967 in Savonlinna, Finland. He was a defenseman in his playing days, and in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft he was selected by the Buffalo Sabres at #140 overall. Petri has two sons, and he qualified as a coach in 2002.
