The official website of Lokomotiv Yaroslavl has announced that US specialist Tom Rowe has signed a contract to become the club’s head coach for the 2012-13 season. Rowe has been working in the NHL as assistant coach of the Carolina Hurricanes, but has been chosen as the man to lead the Yaroslavl club as it returns to the KHL next season after spending a year in the lower league, the VHL, following the tragic plane crash of last September.
Rowe’s assistant will be Dmitry Yushkevich, who was head coach at Sibir during the 2011-12 campaign and is a former Lokomotiv player.
Current coach Pyotr Vorobyov will stay on as head of Lokomotiv’s VHL team next season as part of the ongoing work to restore the club to its former glory.
