The Kontinental Hockey League, in partnership with the Russian American Foundation, and as part of the month-long Russian Heritage Festival in New York City, is sponsoring the historic “Battles on Ice” exhibition hockey games. The two-game series will pit the FDNY hockey team v. EMERCOM (Russian firefighters’ team) on Saturday, June 18th at 7:30 PM and the Legends of the USSR team v. FDNY/NHL Alumni on Sunday, June 19th at 2:00 PM.
Both games will be played at Aviator Sports and Event Center in Brooklyn, NY, and all proceeds from the games will benefit the FDNY Widow’s and Children’s Fund.
The FDNY-EMERCOM game will by the first time FDNY and EMERCOM teams have faced each other. NHL Alumni scheduled to participate in Sunday’s game include Ron Duguay, Ron Greschner, Steve Vickers and Peter and Chris Ferraro. Russian legends scheduled to compete include Alexander Yakushev, Valeri Kamensky, Alexei Kasatonov and Sergei Makarov.
