The Kontinental Hockey League has officially announced that hockey club Budivelnik of Kyiv will not be taking part in the KHL Championship season 2010-11. On June 24th at a specially arranged press conference the Kyiv club’s leadership announced that they must decline the invitation to appear due to failure to construct the arena to the necessary KHL standards and the improbability of doing so in the foreseeable future.
The Kontinental Hockey League expresses its regret that the Kyiv club is unable to take part in the Championship. “The participation of Budivelnik Kyiv was to be a significant step toward a revival of Ukrainian hockey and the expansion of the League,” said KHL President Alexander Medvedev.
