Lokomotiv Yaroslavl goaltender Georgy Gelashvili (pictured) is back from injury – and back in award-winning form.
Last year’s Goalie of the Season was voted the top stopper of week six, conceding just two goals as his team overpowered Vityaz Chekhov 8-1 before derailing SKA St. Petersburg 4-1. Gelashvili saved 96.7 per cent of the shots he faced.
Dynamo Moscow’s Denis Denisov was also recognized as the best defenseman after contributing a goal and two assists to his team’s wins over Metallurg Magnitogorsk (5-2) and SKA (4-3). He finished with a +1 co-efficient.
Up front Anton Kuryanov was the man to fear, scoring three and creating two for Avangard Omsk as they enjoyed victory against Sibir Novosibirsk sandwiched between home and away wins over Metallurg Novokuznetsk. Kuryanov finished with a +5 ranking.
Top youngster Sergei Plotnikov (Amur Khabarovsk) was a bright spot in his side’s struggles at the foot of the table. His goal and assist helped him score +1 over back-to-back games with Salavat Yulayev and a long trip to Dinamo Riga.
