This season’s All-Star game is going to Minsk to celebrate the opening of a new 15,000-seater arena in the Belorussian capital.
The showpiece occasion, due to be held on January 30, will bring together two teams made up of the league’s most impressive players this season.
«The decision to play this game in Minsk is justified and logical,» KHL President Alexander Medvedev said. «In Belarus, hockey is the national sport.»
«This all-star game, which will take place in a beautiful new arena, will be a real festival of hockey and a memorable occasion for fans and players.»
«In addition, holding the game outside Russia is a reflection of the prospects for expanding the league into Europe.»
The new arena in Minsk is due to open at the end of November, and is expected to be one of the best venues in Europe.
