October’s finest

Dynamo Moscow’s striking Swedes were among the honors in the October player of the month awards.
Mattias Weinhandl (pictured) was the top forward of the month, collecting 21 points from 12 matches (nine goals and 12 assists). Three of his strikes were game-winning goals, and his effectiveness rating for the month was +6.
Team-mate and compatriot Linus Omark took the newcomer of the month, given to the best player aged under 22 who hasn’t featured regularly in top-level hockey in an earlier season. His haul of six goals and one assist put him alongside Weinhandl on the roll of honour.
Karri Ramo of Avangard was the top goaltender, after the Finn helped his team to seven wins from 11 games. Two clean sheets helped him average just 1.92 goals per game, saving 91.2 per cent of shots.
The top defender was Salavat Yulayev’s Dmitry Kalinin, with an effectiveness rating of +10. As if to prove that attack is the best form of defence, he grabbed seven goals and three assists in his 12 appearances.
