A day of two thrashings. November 14 round-up

CSKA produced a second-period storm to beat Salavat Yulaev 7-0. The teams played out a goalless opening session, but even that there was some evidence that the visitor was in for a difficult evening. CSKA had 23 attempts on goal to eight, and 11 of them forced a save from Leland Irving. That pressure finally told early in the second when Andrei Stas opened the scoring and just after the midway mark Simon Hjalmarsson’s pass set up Bogdan Kiselevich for a power play goal. But that was merely the warm-up act: four goals in four minutes – including two in 20 seconds – transformed the path of the game. Sergei Andronov, Vladimir Zharkov, Hjalmarsson and Andrei Kuzmenko ensured that CSKA scored with six of its 10 shots on goal in the period, spelling the end of Irving’s evening. Hjalmarsson got his second of the night in the third to complete the scoring; Kevin Lalande made 19 saves for his shut-out.
