Slovan has reinforced its Foreign Legion with the addition of 26-year-old Canadian defenseman Simon Després, formerly of the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Anaheim Ducks (NHL totals: 222 games, 7 goals, 43 assists), and 25-year-old Canadian-Israeli forward Eliezer Sherbatov, whose route to Slovakia and the KHL has included spells in Israel, the QMJHL, France and Kazakhstan. Both players have agreed one-year deals with the Bratislava club.

Joining them is Canadian defenseman Cam Barker, who has returned to Slovan on a one-year contract after spending the 2016-17 season at Barys.

Ugra has recruited forward Maxim Pestushko on a one-year deal. The 32-year-old, who has featured in every KHL season, spent the previous campaign with Avangard.

Barys has signed former Toronto Maple Leafs, Los Angeles Kings, and Columbus Blue Jackets forward Matt Frattin (NHL totals: 141 games, 17 goals, 20 assists). The 29-year-old Canadian has signed up for one year at the Astana club.

31-year-old forward Alexander Nesterov, a veteran of every season of the KHL, has agreed a one-year contract with Lada after spending the last two campaigns with Salavat Yulaev.

The most significant non-mover of the past few days was double world champion and former Blue Jackets, Rangers and Flyers forward Nikolai Zherdev (NHL totals: 436 games, 116 goals, 148 assists), who has been on a tryout contract at Neftekhimik and has now signed a one-year-deal with the Nizhnekamsk club.
