The KHL Disciplinary Committee has reviewed an incident from the 30th minute of Saturday’s match in Saint Petersburg between SKA and Jokerit, in which Helsinki defenseman Topi Jaakola was sent to the locker room for spearing.

After viewing all the evidence related to the episode, the Committee supported the referee’s decision to punish the foul with a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes). Offences of this nature can incur further disciplinary sanctions, and in this case, the Committee has fined Topi Jaakola and suspended him for one game.

The Committee also reviewed and upheld the minor plus major plus misconduct penalty (2+5+10 minutes) handed to Torpedo defenseman Kirill Vorobyov for being the instigator in a brawl during the match against HC Red Star Kunlun, also on Saturday. Vorobyov was fined but escaped a suspension for his part in the fisticuffs.
