Following a request from the Refereeing Department, the KHL Disciplinary Committee has investigated an episode from the second minute of Thursday’s match in Omsk between Avangard and Sibir, in which visiting forward Maxim Shalunov was given two minutes in the penalty box for illegal use of the knee.

After reviewing the incident, the Committee found the Sibir man guilty of the more serious offence of illegal use of the knee with intent to injure an opponent, and as a result, Maxim Shalunov receives a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes), a fine, and a three-game suspension.
