In the 47th minute of Wednesday’s Game 2 of the Western Conference quarter-final series between CSKA and Torpedo, home defenseman Grigory Panin was given a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes) for checking to the head and neck area.

As Panin’s foul left Nizhny Novgorod forward Alexei Potapov requiring treatment for a head injury, the KHL Disciplinary Committee has imposed an additional punishment of a one-game suspension. Moreover, this was the CSKA man’s second 20-minute penalty of the current season, following a game misconduct for kneeing during a regular season game on the 9th of October (also against Torpedo), which means the player must serve an automatic one-game ban for repeat offending.

Grigory Panin is therefore suspended for two games.
