Barys Astana 3 (SO)
Ugra Khanty-Mansiysk 2

The first KHL game of 2016 went to Barys - but it was a victory by the narrowest of margins over Ugra.

The visitor led twice - briefly at first on Denis Gorbunov's fourth-minute power play goal, then for a full 30 minutes after Evgeny Orlov found the net in the 26th minute.

But Barys tied it up in the 56th minute: Mike Lundin added an assist to his first-period goal as Dustin Boyd leveled the scores with less than five minutes to play.

Overtime could not separate the teams but the host prevailed in the shoot-out thanks to two saves from Pavel Poluektov and a game-winning shot from Roman Starchenko.
