To mark the end of the fifteenth week’s play of the eighth season of the Championship, the Kontinental Hockey League has named the best players of the week (plus Monday night’s Jokerit vs. Medvescak match) in four categories. 


Best goaltender, for the second time this season, was Edgars Masalskis (Lada), who helped his team claim two wins in two games on the road, including one shutout victory. Masalskis ended the week with a save percentage of 98.53 and allowed just a solitary goal; 

Best defenseman, also for the second time of the current campaign, was Philip Larsen (Jokerit), with three wins, 12 shots at goal, 6 points (2+4) and a +4 from three appearances. One of Larsen’s goals was the game-winner against Neftekhimik and he did not receive a single minus in any game; 

Best forward was Sergei Shumakov (Sibir), with 4 points (4+0) from two victorious appearances thanks to a double in each game, and a +2 for the week; 

Best rookie was 19-year-old Traktor forward Semyon Afonasyevsky, who enjoyed two outings, from which he yielded 3 points (2+1), an average 9 minutes 57 seconds of ice time, 5 shots at goal and 3 blocks. Afonasyevsky avoided a negative plus/minus in both games and earned a +3 for the week.
