5,000,000+ and still counting

18 February 2015, 09:46

A short time before Sunday’s game between Admiral and Avangard, one of the eager fans crossing the threshold of Vladivostok’s Fetisov Arena became the five millionth spectator of the current Championship. This is the first time in the seven-year history of the KHL that total attendance in the regular season has passed the 5,000,000 milestone.

One reason, admittedly, is the increase in the number of games, as the table below illustrates, but that is only half the story. The average audience has also increased markedly - up 5% on the previous season – and this is also a record: never before has the League’s average regular season attendance broken through the 6,400 barrier.
