Dear friends and fans of hockey,
As we approach the start of a new year, each of us looks back to take stock of the old. 2014 was a special one for us. The whole world turned its gaze to Sochi and saw the fruits of years of hard work on the preparation and staging of the biggest and most successful Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in history. Each and every one of us, from the organizers to the fans, played a part in this achievement and has good reason to feel immensely proud.
2014 also proved to be a successful time for the Kontinental Hockey League. In the six-and-a-half years since its founding, the League continues to make steady progress, united under the leadership of the finest hockey professionals. The most important thing is that we strive together, so that this progress at club level will be mirrored in the performance of Team Russia. A strong League makes a strong national team. This is the main principle underpinning our collaboration with the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, and I hope that throughout 2015 we can make considerable progress toward reaching this goal.
From the bottom of our hearts, we wish you all a very happy New Year! We hope 2015 will bring joy and success for you and your nearest and dearest. And for all of us, we wish for even more excitement and drama out on the ice and the continued advancement of our beloved sport, which is now regarded as the number one sport in the country!
Dmitry Chernyshenko, President of the Kontinental Hockey League
