Sersen banned for 1 game

The KHL Disciplinary Committee has investigated an incident from the 40th minute of Wednesday’s game in Bratislava between Slovanand Barys Astana, namely the decision to award a minor penalty (2 minutes) against home defenseman Michal Sersen for illegal use of the elbow in a challenge on Astana forward Nigel Dawes. After reviewing the available evidence, the Committee judged Sersen to be guilty of the more serious offense of tripping and injuring an opponent, and has therefore replaced the minor penalty with a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes). As this is Sersen’s second 20-minute penalty of the current season, he receives an automatic one-game suspension for repeat offending.
