Kolar banned, Kostitsyn cleared

The KHL Disciplinary Committee has reviewed two episodes from Friday’s games in the Championship.

In the 10th minute of the game in Vladivostok between Admiral and Dinamo Minsk, home team defenseman Jan Kolar received a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes) for deliberate use of the elbow in a hit on Minsk forward Sergei Drozd. The Committee upheld the referee’s decision and has suspended Kolar for one game.

The Committee also investigated the 42nd-minute incident in Togliatti which led to HC Sochi forward Andrei Kostitsyn being sent to the locker room for boarding after a collision with Karol Sloboda. The Lada defenseman was injured in the challenge, but the video footage shows that it was Sloboda’s own change of speed and direction which caused the collision. As Kostitsyn did nothing illegal in the challenge, his major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes) has been rescinded by the Committee.
