Sunday’s game in Yekaterinburg was delayed when the arena lighting failed after just 19 seconds. The teams were held up for about 20 minutes, but once the action got underway visitors Donbass wasted little time in taking command against Avtomobilist.
The home side had a goal disallowed by the video official early on, and within seconds Donbass had a powerplay which resulted in a fifth-minute goal for Vaclav Nedorost. Peter Podhradsky doubled that advantage inside the first period and Teemu Laine produced the goal of the game to make it 3-0 on 49 minutes. His solo run ended with a deke on Jakub Kovar, leaving the goalie sprawling as the puck found the empty net.
Donbass makes it four wins from four, Avtomobilist suffers a fourth successive defeat – and fails to score for the third time in those four games after Michael Leighton made 25 saves.
