Artyukhin’s automatic ban

4 October 2013, 23:54

Three episodes from Thursday’s games attracted the attention of the KHL Disciplinary Committee.

In the 38th minute of the game in Nizhny Novgorod between Torpedo and Atlant, visitors’ forward Evgeny Artyukhin was handed a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes) for high-sticking on Torpedo defenseman Vadim Khomitsky. There was no dispute regarding the foul and the nature of the punishment, but as this was the Mytishchi man’s second game misconduct penalty of the season, the Committee has handed Artyukhin the mandatory one-game ban for repeat offending.

In the opening minute of the same game, Atlant forward Konstantin Koltsov was given two minutes in the penalty box for high-sticking on opposing forward Vladimir Galuzin. The Committee reviewed the incident and upgraded the foul to one of injuring an opponent by checking to the head and neck area, for which Koltsov receives a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes) but does not incur any additional suspension.

The Committee also reviewed the 59th-minute sending off of Dynamo Moscow forward Martins Karsums for kicking Lokomotiv defenseman Mikhail Pashnin, and upheld the referee’s decision to punish the offense with a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes).
