All-Star Game - starting lineups announced14.12.2012
At noon today, Moscow Time, the deadline passed for votes to select the starting lines and starting goaltenders for 2013 KHL All-Star Game, to be held in Chelyabinsk on the weekend of January 12-13.
For Team West (players from the Western Conference), starting the All-Star Game will be:
Goaltender Semyon Varlamov (Lokomotiv, 26,344 supporters’ votes), who edged out Dinamo Minsk’s Pekka Rinne by a mere 140 votes.
In front of Varlamov will be the defensive pair of Zdeno Chara (Lev Prague, 29,073) and Alexander Ryazantsev (Severstal, 26,760).
The fans selected a forward line of Pavel Datsyuk (CSKA, 33,731), Alexander Ovechkin (Dynamo Moscow, 31,935) and Ilya Kovalchuk (SKA, 31,709).
The starting lineup for Team East (players from the Eastern Conference) is as follows:
Goaltender Michael Garnett (Traktor 26,396);
Defensemen Ilya Nikulin (Ak Bars 30,090) and Sergei Gonchar (Metallurg Magnitogorsk, 28,699);
Forwards: Evgeny Malkin (Metallurg Magnitogorsk, 40,569), Evgeny Kuznetsov (Traktor, 30,248) and Sergei Kostitsyn (Avangard, 30,152).

The next stage of selection is the journalists’ ballot to choose the teams’ second lines, running from the 17th to the 21st of December. These players will be selected by media personnel with accreditation to cover the KHL Championship. On the 24th of December the completed rosters of both teams will be published.
From the 7th to the 11th of January, again via the official All-Star Game website, the fans can vote to choose the two All-Star Game team captains.
Note: In the event of any selected player being unable to participate in the All-Star Game, he will be replaced by one of the top-rated players who missed out on being selected for the teams.
