In the 46th minute of Monday’s CSKA vs. SKA game, Petersburg forward Evgeny Artyukhin used his elbow to strike CSKA forward Niklas Persson in the face. The KHL Disciplinary Committee has studied the incident and upholds the referee’s decision to impose a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes) for causing injury with an attack to the head or neck area. Foul play of this kind is punishable by further disciplinary sanctions, and in this case the Committee has handed Artyukhin a two-game ban, plus an additional ban of one game for being a repeat offender. Evgeny Artyukhin is therefore suspended for three games.
The Disciplinary Committee has also imposed a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes) on SKA defenseman Alexei Semenov for kneeing and injuring CSKA forward Vladimir Zharkov during the same game.
