To mark the end of the second week’s play of the championship, The Kontinental Hockey League has named the best players of the week in four categories.
– Best goaltender of the week was Tomas Popperle (Lev), who played in three games during the week, shut out the opposition in two of them, saving 97.3% of shots and allowing an average of just 0.65 goals per game.
– Best defenseman was Anton Belov (Avangard). Belov finished the week with 3 points (1+2) from three games and an efficiency rating of +4;
– Best attacker was Gleb Klimenko (SKA), who scored four goals in three games while meriting a +1. In average, it took Gleb just 9 minutes and 36 seconds of ice time to score a point this week;
– Best rookie* was Lokomotiv forward Daniil Apalkov (pictured), who in three games notched 3 points (2+1) and earned a +1.
The best rookie award is open to those players, goaltender or skater, born in 1991-95, who have played no more than 20 times in previous Russian championships. The player must also have appeared in no fewer than half of his team’s games during the relevant playing week.
