Metallurg Magnitogorsk picked up its first win of the season, downing defending champion Dynamo Moscow 2-0 on home ice. Dynamo went into the game on the back of three straight wins, Metallurg had lost its first two and scored just once this season. But the form book was turned on its head in the first period when Sergei Mozyakin opened the scoring on a powerplay thanks to Cal O’Reilly’s defense-splitting pass. The outcome remained in doubt until the closing seconds, however, when Justin Hodgman got his second goal in successive games, slotting into an empty net to seal the head coach Paul Maurice's first KHL win. Goalie Ari Ahonen made 22 saves for the shut-out at the other end.
