On the 15th of August 2012, the Kontinental Hockey League and Viasat Broadcasting, with the cooperation and mediation of the UFA Sports GmbH marketing company, signed a new contract extending the partnership which began in 2009. According to the new agreement, in each of the next three KHL Championship seasons Viasat channels will broadcast over 180 games to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, including all of Dinamo Riga’s home games in the regular season and in the play-offs, in addition to 96 regular season games, 30 play-off games and also the KHL All-Star Game.
“For the entire term of our first three-year agreement, Viasat Broadcasting has certainly proved to be a professional and reliable partner,” – said Natalya Chaykovskaya, head of KHL Marketing’s TV Projects Department. “The TV6 and Viasat Sport Baltic channels boast an ultra-modern technical base, a superb team of commentators, a sharp understanding of hockey and of the high standard of quality demanded by the KHL in broadcasting its matches.
Under the new agreement the number of KHL championship games broadcast will increase by nearly fifty percent, and I’m sure that this will have the most positive impact on the popularity of the KHL championship across the Baltic region. In addition to broadcasting our games on air and via the Internet, our partner plans to implement a broad spectrum of promotional strategies to raise awareness of Dinamo Riga and their games, and of the Kontinental Hockey League as a whole.”
