Eastern Conference final, Game2
(1) Traktor Chelyabinsk 2
(2) Avangard Omsk 3 2OT
Series tied 1-1
It took an overtime goal from Nikita Pivtsakin to give Avangard Omsk victory at Traktor Chelyabinsk and level the Eastern Conference final at 1-1. Pivtsakin struck on 86:01 to settle a hard-fought game which spilled into a second session of overtime.
The young defenseman, who earlier put in a match-winning performance during the semi-final series against Metallurg, grabbed a goal out of nothing after Roman Cervenka's shot was blocked by Michael Garnett. That leaves the series intriguingly poised as the action switches to Siberia on Monday.
In regulation time Evgeny Kuznetsov had proved to be the key man once again. The youngster scored both Traktor's goals in a 2-2 tie, first leveling the scores midway through the opening session after luring Karri Ramo out of his goal, then converting a one-on-one at the end of a blistering breakaway to put Traktor ahead on 35:09.
But Avangard hit back through Alexander Perezhogin seconds after the start of the final period. The forward squeezed a powerful shot past Garnett from the tightest of angles to make it two goals in two games for the series. Dmitry Syomin had given Avangard an early lead, taking charge in a 2-on-1 breakaway in the third minute.
