Eastern Conference semi-finals, Day 2
(2) Avangard Omsk 5
(3) Metallurg Magnitogorsk 2
Series tied 1-1
Avangard leveled the series in fine style, romping to a 5-2 success in game two. Roman Cervenka scored twice, taking his play-off tally to six from six, to lead the way as Avangard romped into an early 4-0 lead by 10:21.

The second period saw the home side extend that advantage thanks to Yury Alexandrov before Magnitka pulled a couple back through Dmitry Obukhov and Mikhail Yakubov. But there was no serious prospect of a dramatic fight back in an evenly-matched and scoreless final session.

Sunday sees the teams rejoin battle in Magnitogorsk with the series poised at 1-1.

Traktor ups the pressure
(1)Traktor Chelyabinsk 2
(4) Ak Bars Kazan 1
Traktor lead the series 2-0
For the second game running Traktor came from behind to beat Ak Bars - and the regular season’s top team now takes a 2-0 advantage to the Tatar capital on Sunday.

As in the sides’ opening encounter on Wednesday, it was the visitors who opened the scoring with Danis Zaripov putting Ak Bars ahead on 26:45. But once again, Andrei Popov found the equalizer for Traktor in the second period.

Then came one of the most long-awaited goals in the play-offs - boy wonder Evgeny Kuznetsov got his first post-season strike to win it for Traktor, beating Petri Vehanen at the second attempt. Kuznetsov missed almost all of the first round through injury, and was making just his third play-off appearance in Friday’s game.
