In Monday night’s only KHL game, Severstal Cherepovets closed in on Atlant and Torpedo in the race for second place in the Western conference with a convincing 8-2 win over Vityaz Chekhov. The game was settled in the second period, when the home side rattled up five goals without reply after a 1-1 tie in the opening session. The hosts had eight different goalscorers, from prolific Vadim Shipachyov’s 20th of the season, to Stanislav Yegorshev’s first. Vityaz gave ice time to both Danila Alistratov and Sergei Denisov between the pipes, but could not stem the goal rush. Severstal now trail Atlant and Torpedo by two points.
