The festive season may be upon us, but nobody in Minsk was interested in giving away any gifts when SKA St. Petersburg came to town. The clash of the Western Conference leaders went Dinamo’s way thanks to the efforts of three wise men in the form of goaltender Kevin Lalande (39 saves for a clean sheet) and goalscorers Jaroslav Obsut and Alexander Pavlovich, with the latter netting his first of the season. That put Dinamo 2-0 ahead, and as SKA sought a miracle fightback it was Andrei Stas who shepherded his team to victory with an empty net goal on 57:20.
Lev and Atlant served up a Christmas cracker in Poprad, with the visitors getting the verdict in overtime after a 4-4 tie. The game went up and down like Santa at a chimney - Lev twice led early on, before Atlant inched ahead in the closing stages, with Jonas Andersson twice on the mark. The visitors were all set to open the champagne when Andersson’s second put them 4-3 up on 56:51, but their fizz was abruptly flattened on 58:45 when Emil Lundberg equalized. Patrick Zakrisson completed a good day for the teams’ Scandinavian contingent, however, to net the winner for Atlant 44 seconds into overtime.
