Today is the 65th anniversary of SKA - one of Russia’s oldest clubs, whose honors include two bronzes in the USSR championships and many triumphs and titles in international tournaments. The Kontinental Hockey League extends its congratulations on reaching the jubilee, and wishes SKA continued prosperity and new victories!
SKA gave to the hockey world Olympic champions and world championship winners such as Alexei Kasatonov, Alexei Gusarov and Nikolai Drozdetsky, plus many more illustrious players. We hope Petersburg hockey will present us with even more talented exponents of hockey in the future.
Today, the Ice Palace in Saint Petersburg several generations of players, from the youngest juniors to legendary veterans, take to the ice to celebrate SKA’s birthday. Opening the event at 11:00 is a junior game for youngsters born in 1999, followed at 12:30 by SKA Legends vs USSR Legends. Turning out for SKA Legends are Olympic champions Alexei Kasatonov and Alexei Gusarov, head coach of SKA-1946 Mikhail Kravets, and assistant coach of SKA-1946 Andrei Andreyev. Starring for the USSR Legends will be Alexander Yakushev, Yury Lyapkin, Sergei Gimayev and other renowned hockey veterans.
The celebrations culminate with the KHL Championship game between SKA and Neftekhimik, which starts at 17:00.
