Another resignation

27.10.2009

Match of the day
Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod 5
Vityaz Moscow Region 4
In their first game under Sergei Mikhalev Torpedo have done something they haven’t been able to do from five previous attempts - they won after going two goals down. In fact, conceding first is quite normal for the side from Nizhny Novgorod. It was 13th occasion this season when they fell behind. As for Vityaz it was their sixth defeat after opening the score. More than that, Mike Krushelnyski team lost three out of five matches after going two goals up.

Fifth resignation
In the meantime another club decided to part company with the head coach. Fedor Kanareykin (pictured) was sacked Atlant following 6-0 defeat at the hands of Salavat Yulayev, the heaviest sfor Moscow Region side since their move from Voskresensk to Mytishhi. Valery Bragin was namen an interim coach.

Assist from goalie
Sibir’s Thomas Lawson became 11th goaltender to score a point for an assist this season. It was his second assists in Russian career, the first one coming two years ago, when he was playing for CSKA.

Bright debut
Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg signed a contract with Stanislav Zhmakin from CSKA and this proved to be a good move. Their new forward scored twice on his debut. It didn’t help, though, since the team lost 6-3 to Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. But Zhmakin already scored as many goals as he’s had in his 49 regular-season games for CSKA last season.

Aggressive visitors
Lokomotiv is now tied for 2nd place in the league on away goals. Railway Men scored 32 times playing far from Yaroslavl. But goals not always count for victories. Based on away points Lokomotiv is only 8 th in the League.

Day’s records
Torpedo had 39 shots on Vityaz’ goal. 10 of them were fired by Mikhail Varnakov.

Ak Bars defenseman Andrei Pervyshin spent 20 min 3 cec on ice

Lokomotiv’s Josef Vasicek won 78.9 per cent of his face-offs.

Traktor and Spartak amassed 66 penalty minutes in total. Each team had one 10-minute penalty.

Sergei Bobrovsky (Metallurg Novokuznetsk) saved 36 shots to help his team beat Ak Bars.

Sergei Konkov (Lokomotiv) scored two goals and made an assist in just over 13 minutes.

Stanislav Chistov (Metallurg Magnitogorsk). Scored a goal and made two assists, finishing the game at a +2.

Quote of the day
