Kalinin’s new record

26.10.2009

Match of the day
Atlant 0
Salavat Yulayev 6
Never before had Atlant lost in Mytishchi by such a heavy score. Their previous heaviest defeat came last season, went they went down 2-7 to CSKA. Back in October 2005 they club suffered a 0-8 thrashing at the hands of the Army Men – but at that time the team was still playing in Voskresensk.

Six of the best
It wasn’t the first time Salavat Yulayev went to another rink and hit their opponents for six. This season, so far, they had managed no more than five on their travels but in last season’s KHL they rattled in six away goals on two occasions – against Dynamo Moscow and Dinamo Minsk. But their record was nine goals, away to Sibir Novosibirsk last October.

Dynamo’s record
Dynamo Moscow recorded their sixth successive regulation time victory for the first time in the KHL. Previously they had only managed five wins on the spin since the KHL came into being. The last time they had six straight successes was in the second phase of the 2000-2001 season, in a play-off among teams ranked 13-18 in the regular season.

Consistency
Maxim Spiridonov, a striker with Barys Astana, has scored points in seven consecutive games. In that time he scored four goals and five assists. But Salavat Yulayev’s Alexander Radulov extended his streak to eight games, one behind the current record-holder for this season, Gennady Churilov (Lokomotiv Yaroslavl).

Three year wait
Last time Dynamo defender Andrei Plekhanov scored in the Russian League was on November 21, 2006. That effort helped Neftekhimik to a 6:3 win over Vityaz Chekhov. Last night’s goal against Dinamo Riga means Plekhanov has already equaled his best-effort scoring season – he’s never before managed two goals in the same campaign.

Clean match
For the second time this season Atlant Moscow Region got through a match with just four penalty minutes against them. But unlike their first sportsmanlike show, a win over Amur Khabarovsk, playing nice with Salavat Yulayev could not save them from defeat.

Day's records
Salavat Yulayev defender Dmitry Kalinin was at a +6 for his contribution to the win at Atlant – a new championship record.

Barys defender Kevin Dallman spent 29 minutes 49 seconds on the ice, while his team-mate Maxim Spiridonov had seven shots at goal.

SKA St. Petersburg’s Petr Cajanek won 71.4 per cent of his 21 face-offs.

SKA had 34 shots on the Barys goal.

Salavat goalie Vitaly Kolesnik faced 24 shots, and kept his second clean sheet of the season.

Mattias Weinhandl (Dynamo Moscow) spent 17 minutes on the ice, had three shots, scored twice and picked up an assist. He now leads the top-scorers chart with 13 goals.

Jiri Hudler (Dynamo Moscow) had three assists in his side’s win over Dinamo Riga.

Quote of the day

«You'd feel sorry for the team if we had a squad of sick and lame players, but we were all healthy,» Atlant’s head coach Fedor Kanareykin on his side’s 0-6 home defeat to Salavat Yulayev.
