Jokerit’s top scorer Steve Moses was the team’s savior in Sunday’s shoot-out win at home to Amur.
The Western Conference high-flyer might have expected a fairly easy ride against the struggler from the Far East but it didn’t play out quite like that. After a scoreless first period Amur broke the deadlock on a power play early in the second through Michel Miklik.
That lead was wiped out by Moses just before halfway and when Niko Kapanen made it 2-1 a minute later it seemed that the pre-game expectations were about to be met at last. Amur, though, had other ideas and when Mikhail Fisenko reacted first to a rebound off goalie Riku Helenius the game was tied once again.
There was no scoring in the third session, despite a great chance for Niklas Hagman early on and some dangerous shots from Miklik in the dying moments, but ultimately Moses delivered victory for the Finns in the shoot-out.
